G4 Makes STAR TREK Interactive

March 8, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 4 Comments

In a press release the G4 cable network announced the debut of “STAR TREK 2.0.”

This bold new concept in TV viewing will take STAR TREK:TOS episodes and make fans a vital part of the viewing process through real time on-screen interaction.

LIVE online chats during the episodes will be available and something unique called “Spock Market,” a stock market simulation that turns watching Trek into a real time interactive investment game will be added. Here is an idea of how it works:

As an episode is being watched the viewers are given credits to buy and sell stock in companies and characters associated with the show. A real time wall street style stock ticker will run across the screen. Viewer’s interest in a particular scene can be measured by the rise and fall of the stock of that scene or the character in it.

Another fun and informative feature of the interactive STAR TREK 2.0 is “Trek Facts,” which will put up on the screen little known insider facts about the scene, the characters and the celebrities both in front of and behind the camera. This will be shown in a pop-up window in much the same way DVD’s offer a written running commentary.

To participate in all these features on G4’s STAR TREK 2.0 the viewer must be registered with G4TV/Trek2.0.

This exciting addition to the popular classic Trek will premiere on April 10, 2006 and run Monday through Friday at 11PM ET/PT as part of the G4 Network’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of the legendary STAR TREK franchise.
